No Kings in the Tri-Cities — Residents Explain Their Demands
On Columbia Center Boulevard, crowds lined the sidewalks for the third "No Kings" protest, organized by the pro-democracy group Indivisible. Protesters were clearly frustrated with the state of the country under the Trump administration, citing fear for themselves and their neighbors, disgust with the invasion of Iran, and a general sense that human rights are eroding. Many cited financial worries, pointing to high gas prices and volatility in the stock market as signs of an administration failing its citizens. Many called for the impeachment of the president (Trump has already been impeached twice).
Loren Malone, founder of Indivisible Tri-Cities emphasized that the organization sees protesting as one part of a greater goal alongside community-building and voter education. Many attendees we spoke to highlighted the importance of coming together and finding like-minded community members in a rural area that often feels overwhelmingly conservative.
